JOB IDENTIFICATION :

Business Title : Scientific Team Leader (STL)

Department : Springer Healthcare Japan

Location : Tokyo, Japan

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS :

Report to : Editorial Manager, Japan

Supervises : Up to five direct-line reports (Medical Writers and Editors)

BASIC FUNCTION :

To act as writer / editorial lead on assigned accounts to drive revenue and provide scientific leadership within accounts;

To lead and develop a team of Medical Writers and Editors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Project delivery 70% : Manage all aspects of delivery of scientific content that meets client needs, internal quality standards and timelines.

2. Leadership of Medical Writers, trainee Medical Writers and Editors 30% : Implement Springer Healthcare performance management system for team;

Development of team members : Develop team members to their full potential according to job descriptions, and to meet customer and Springer Healthcare business needs;

Work with Editorial Manager Japan to develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures within the Springer Healthcare Japan Editorial team, accoring to internal and external requirements.

3. Business planning / commercial : Apply knowledge of the therapeutic use and strategic marketing of pharmaceuticals within Japan to account plans, medical communication programmes, proposals and pitches.

4. Financial : Monitor own adherence to budgets and utilisation rates; Record and monitor actual time spent on a project against budgeted time, and complete timesheets in a timely manner;

Contribute to revenue targets; Provide recommendations to the Editorial Manager Japan for team promotions.

5. Organizational : Alongside Sales and Ops / Production teams, input into schedules, costings calculations and pricing to client at pitch stage;

Work closely with Japan Ops / Production team to monitor, report and ensure ongoing project delivery to agreed schedules and budgets;

Assist the Editorial Manager Japan in recruitment by interviewing candidates if required.

6. Teamwork : Support team-working principles within Springer Healthcare account teams, business development, medical communications, all offices and other departments.
