The President Office is looking for an experienced External and Internal Communications Manager who is passionate about creative storytelling and will focus on creating engaging, compelling, relevant, and accessible content to support the organization’s priorities.

The Communication Manager is responsible for driving the internal communication and social strategy for the President and CEO of Microsoft Japan, leading the centralized communications work in partnership with key stakeholders across a matrixed organization.

As a Communications Manager you will be :

A trusted advisor for Communications who is charged with advancing and protecting the image and reputation of Microsoft and helping to meet the Corporate and Business objectives.

You will collaborate across local / area / corp teams to develop stories in fresh ways to generate positive perceptions towards Microsoft, as well as manage issues towards a positive / neutral outcome.

Cross-Functional :

Enhance Microsoft’s mission, culture, thought leadership, trust and innovation through campaigns while generating momentum for Microsoft’s commercial and consumer offerings.

You will thrive in global storytelling opportunities by using data and insights, which feature local customers. You will collaborate internally with key stakeholders and senior leaders to drive communications to employees aligned to the mission, culture, and strategic priorities for company-wide employee goals.

Corporate :

Enhance Microsoft’s thought leadership, strengthen our positioning as a trusted partner for digital transformation, and contribute to innovation campaigns while generating momentum for Microsoft’s commercial and consumer offerings.

You will craft thoughtful and thorough communications to corporate stakeholders that represent the Japan market, competitive environment, and the progress Microsoft Japan is making with our transformation.

Employee :

A trusted advisor for Communications who is charged with advancing and protecting the image and reputation of Microsoft among our internal audiences and build employee advocacy to help customers and partners drive their transformation.

Enhance Microsoft’s mission, culture, thought leadership, trust and innovation through internal employee communications and events.

You will collaborate internally with key communication stakeholders and senior leaders to drive an over-arching cadence of communications and programs to employees to inform, educate, and align them on mission, culture, and strategic priorities.

You will measure, plan and inform efforts by utilizing data and insights from internal surveys and feedback channels.

Communications strategy and development : Develop the internal and external communications platform and agenda reflecting the vision and thought leadership, business strategy and organizational leadership for the Japan President.

Develop and manage a communications calendar for internal and external communications engagements and social profile, including reviewing and evaluating communications requests and opportunities, gathering input from key stakeholders, and preparing talking points, briefs, and collateral as needed.

Creative storytelling : Develop engaging communications across numerous content mediums and forms, including speeches, emails, briefing documents, Q&As, video scripts, and produce content for internal communications for the organization, including monthly newsletters and internal and Asia Teams channel.

Events engagement and Field Visits : Lead the engagement for the President at key customer and partner internal and external events (Inspire, Partner Roundtables, All-Hands, Field Visits, Ready, Manager Offsites etc.

including speech authorship, related creation of presentations, partnering with event and design teams when appropriate, and collaborating with other stakeholders on content creation.

Create and facilitate executive-level presentations and other communication in partnership with the Chief of Staff when applicable.

Partner with Microsoft US Communications teams to align external communications messaging, via LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

Cross team alignment : Build a strong community across the Microsoft Japan business to align and advance the communications priorities and focus areas and increase engagement across various channels.

Crisis, Issues, & Change Management Communications : Support work to maintain our strong company culture in Microsoft Japan, including communications to deepen employees' understanding of the company’s mission, values, priorities, and ways of working.

Media Strategy & Relations : 10%

Crisis, Issues, & Change Management Communications : 20%

Digital Communications Partnership & Collaboration : 10%

Employee / Executive communications : 15%

Attend customer and partner meetings and support logistics : 10%

Qualifications

  • Approximately 8 10 years of Communications experience
  • Experience managing media relations
  • Awareness of and experience dealing with government and public affairs issues
  • Strong project management and communication skills
  • Experience leading employee and leadership communication efforts
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products and the technology industry is strongly preferred
  • Current knowledge of digital communications techniques and social media engagement is preferred
  • Degree in Communications with an emphasis in public relations, journalism, business or related field or experience
