Business Overview The Sustainability Department belongs to the Corporate Culture Division, a division in charge enhancing the well-being of individuals, of the organization and of society.

Its mission is to maximize corporate value by improving the sustainability of the Rakuten Group, and to thus contribute to the realization of a more sustainable society.

In 2019 was adopted the Rakuten Group Sustainability Policy. Based on this Policy, various activities are conducted in reference to international frameworks such as the SDGs, while keeping close communication with external and internal stakeholders.

For instance, Rakuten Group Inc. joined the international initiative "RE100", committing to using 100% renewal electricity for its business operations by 2025.

Also, through its partnership with JICA, Rakuten aims to drive positive social impact hand in hand with various stakeholders.

ESG communication Improvement of corporate communication and ESG (Environment, Society, Governance) ratings through the disclosure of non-financial information.

Sustainability strategy Identification of Rakuten’s materiality, environmental and human rights impact assessments, sustainable procurement activities, international initiative memberships, collaboration with Group companies, etc.

Internal communication Provision of information e-learning, seminars, etc. - for employees to have a greater understanding and ownership of sustainability-related matters.

Social impact Planning and implementation of social contribution activities. Creation of social impact by leveraging Rakuten’s assets and culture.

Rakuten too aims to solve social issues through partnerships. We are looking for a person who can set goals for the entire group and individual companies, and develop and promote activities, especially with regard to social aspects (human rights).

We are looking for a person eager to drive a positive impact on society by leading the activities that would transform Rakuten’s operations, notably from the point of view of human rights.

This person will be able to draw the ideal vision for the Group, to set goals, and to plan and conduct projects towards this vision.

Their experience will be valuable when addressing a wide range of challenges, Group-level ones and company-specific ones.

Position Details - Group-wide human rights due diligence (impact identification, prevention and mitigation, tracking and verification, and communication) - In-depth analysis of salient human rights issues, assessing the impacts specific to businesses and services, implementing countermeasures, and engaging with stakeholders - Formulation of sustainability strategies and setting of relevant KPIs.

  • Promotion of sustainable procurement and capacity-building of suppliers When necessary, collaboration on the following projects : - ESG information disclosure (DJSI, FTSE, MSCI, etc.
  • Sustainability education for employees - Support of business creation, development, and operations related to SDGs - Support of philanthropic activities, such as cooperation with NGOs and employee volunteering Work Environment The entire department currently has about 10 full-time employees, including new graduates and mid-career workers.

    Our mid-career employees have a variety of backgrounds, including ESG rating, consulting, NPO, and media. Some of our members have experience working overseas.

    Mandatory Qualifications : - Experience in the area of sustainability - business firm, consulting firm, government agency, etc.

    with a in-depth understanding of issues related to human rights, diversity, supply chain management, sustainability strategy execution - Experience in leading multi-stakeholder projects - Speedy and accurate information gathering skills - Project management skills - Basic writing and presentation skills, solid knowledge of Microsoft Office - Business level English (presentations, discussion, documentation) Desired Qualifications : - Sustainability reporting and ESG disclosure - Branding and consumer communication related to sustainability - Experience in leading new businesses and projects - Facilitation skills for workshops, etc.

  • Experience working in a global environment Languages : English (Overall - 3 - Advanced), Japanese (Overall - 4 - Fluent)
