About the role

  • The PD Product Expert executes the Product Expert function in-scope under the guidance of the Regional Product Expert Manager.
  • The PD Product Expert strives for product excellence and drives continuous improvement for our products and services. Consolidates and shares in-depth knowledge within PD.

    The PD Product Expert gets guidance and support from the Regional Product Expert Manager and Senior Customer R&D Manager on complex activities, ad hoc requests, and key issues in the execution of his duties.

    Key responsibilities include

  • Act as the heart of the R&D department by consolidating and sharing in-depth product knowledge, gained internally or through customer interaction, with all of R&D and our customers.
  • Lead technical product development and ensure best-in-class product solutions as well as world-class product ranges. Ensure excellence in execution by ensuring timely delivery and outstanding speed to market in collaboration with Customer R&D.

    Strive for product excellence, raw material knowledge. Liaise with other functional and operational area managers such as QA, sourcing, and / or OSCO to understand their current and future product testing needs.

    Interact closely with Global R&D to ensure that Product Experts apply pushed innovation correctly. Develop plans, cost estimates, and schedules for integrating the aforementioned needs into laboratory operations.

    Define requirements and specifications for new products, new raw materials and evaluate all aspects going into a new product launch.

    Check and confirm the feasibility of transfers by acting as the interface between the different functions involved. Interact closely with R&D Technical Lifecycle Management to manage the product portfolio effectively and efficiently.

    Act as a sparring partner to Customer R&D by challenging customer requests. Ensure knowledge transfer beyond location and plant by leveraging the global network of R&D Product Experts.

    Lead local product development platforms. Act as internal knowledge champion and provide a specific product and raw materials training.

    Maintain a good knowledge of regulatory requirements for your area of expertise.

  • Assess the Request from Technical Point of View, e.g. Discuss Feasibility of a Project with Operations, Production, QA or Technical Advisor;
  • Support OSCO in defining Business Case for Investment, Proceed NPI projects as a project manager. Analyze, evaluate and Get Approval.

    Assess and Approve Usability of Existing Raw Material, Label, and Packaging. Coordinate the validation of new raw materials, new packaging.

    If needed, contact suppliers to gather information.

  • Initiate, Identify, Inform and Organize Projects required - meetings, information, Members and Stakeholders, e.g.Establish a Team for Innovation or Large projects,
  • Join the regional R&D committee (product expert team as well), Join the CoE team on request, and contribute to local / / regional technical knowledge expansion
  • Supervise local product expert activities related to the creation of new products (recipe creation, creation form, registering new materials, product meeting.
  • organize local PE according to customer requests. :
  • Lead and / or join LPC as per governance structure
  • Communication with customers, preparation of presentation for customers, visit (physical or online) customer for technical discussions
  • About you

  • Min. Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Chemistry, or other equivalent backgrounds.
  • Experience (type)
  • Min 5 years experience in product development / product applications / processes in the food industry.
  • Min 3 years experience in the chocolate / fat industry. Understand chocolate / fat knowledge
  • Fluent in Japanese & English (written and oral) is required. Excellent analytical, multitasking, and sensory evaluation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure. Willingness to learn and take over new responsibilities and challenges.
