Position Summary :

The Technical Training & Development Specialist will be part of the APJ Commercial Training Department which is responsible for technical training at our Illumina Solution Centers (ISC) in Asia-Pacific & Japan.

This individual is responsible for executing both internal and customer activities at the ISC located in Tokyo, Japan. Internal training responsibilities include collaboration with global and regional training departments to develop / maintain internal training materials and execute internal training activities and certification.

External activities include collaboration with regional Sales and Marketing departments to execute high-impact customer programs and projects in the ISC to drive business objectives.

This individual is also required to manage the maintenance and operations of the ISC equipment and laboratory including safety and administrative process.

This role will report to the Manager of the APJ Commercial Training Department.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Collaborate with global and regional training team to develop training contents and conduct internal trainings and certifications.
  • Execute and develop customer programs such as demos, proof-of concept projects, and deliver trainings to drive business within Japan.
  • Manage and maintain the processes, consumable inventory, equipment and facility of the ISC.
  • Ensure that all activities within the ISC are documented and adhere to lab safety aspects and regulations of the tenant and local authorities.
  • Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.

    Position Requirements :

  • PhD in Biochemistry / Molecular Biology / Genetics required or M.S. in Biochemistry / Molecular Biology / Genetics with 3 years technical work and / or technical training experience
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English and fluently in Japanese.
  • Strong organization skills, including ability to rapidly balance priorities in a fast-pace environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Clear vision of and commitment to providing outstanding customer service
  • Must be willing to travel up to 20%.

    Preferred Experience / Education / Skills :

  • 3 years of biotech / pharma experience preferred.
  • 3 years of technical training experience preferred
  • Adult learning, Instructional systems design, facilitation, and training evaluation experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with DNA sequencing or microarray technologies preferred.
